ROYAL SANCTUARY OF THE VIRGIN OF HEALTH OF TRAIGUERA
The Royal Sanctuary is the vestige of the passage through Traiguera of the orders of Montesa and the Hospitallers. In 2007 it was declared a Site of Cultural Interest with the category of monument, having its origin in the 14th century and its period of maximum splendour in the 16th century. It is one of the most emblematic as well as unique with the category of Royal of the province, granted by Charles V during the year 1542, renewed by Philip II and confirmed by the Papal Bull in 1555.
The group of buildings that exist today basically correspond to the 16th century, with transformations of the Gothic temple in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The temple is located in the centre of the complex. On the right is the Miracle well and fountain as well as the medieval kitchen. Above these, around a courtyard and on two levels, the hostelry is located. On the left is the old house "de los Curas" and the remains of an old and unfinished palace. Before the entrance of the temple is the Renaissance portico from 1588.
The belfry is the most emblematic element of the medieval hermitage built in 1439.
